Prof. Kenji Satake and students are engaged in several research projects on earthquakes, "strange" sources, and the tsunamis that they cause. Tide gauge records provide the primary data source, though run-up heights are also useful information. Theoretical modeling consists of abrupts changes to sea level due to source deformation, then the waves can be propagated throughout the world's oceans.
